TITLE: WindowMaker-0.80.0 (WM) LFS VERSION: 3.1 AUTHOR: Corbin Bates SYNOPSIS: Here is how one can install WindowMaker-0.80.0 on your LFS system. HINT: Lets get a few items out of the way and make sure that you have all of the required packages and the ones you would like to include. Requirements: ============= - X11R6.x - gcc suite Symbolic link from /usr/include/X11 to /usr/X11R6/include/X11 Options: ======== These options are not required but it will make WindowMaker more pleasurable to use. Note: use the versions listed or newer. - libXPM 4.7 Available @ ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/libs/X/ - libpng 0.96 Available @ http://cdrom.com/pub/png - libtiff 3.4 Available @ ftp://ftp.sgi.com/graphics/tiff - libjpeg 6.0.1 Available @ http://www.ijp.org - libgif 2.2 Available @ ftp://prtr-13.ucsc.edu/pup/libungif - libHermes 1.3.2 Available @ http://www.clanlib.org/hermes - GNU xgettext Available @ ftp://ftp.gnu.org Building WindowMaker: ===================== Now lets get started with the build of WindowMaker. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to compile this program. It is strait forward. Here is the simple build: ./configure make make install ldconfig ================================================================= Now lets add some options: ./configure --prefix=/opt/wm \ --with-appspath=/opt/wm \ --enable-debug=no && make && make install add /opt/wm/lib to the /etc/ld.so.conf file and run ldconfig --prefix=/opt/wm Installs WM in its own directory. This also lets you remove WindowMaker if you don't want it. If you don't like this location pick one of your suiting. --with-appspath=/opt/wm Makes sure WPrefs.app installs in the right place --enable-debug=no This removes the debuging symbols ================================================================== One last thing before starting your newly installed Window Manager. Logon as each of your users and switch to their home directory. Run the wmaker.inst program to install WindowMakers configurations. Finally your finished. Type startx and and you should be greeted with WindowMaker's desktop.
